It was a GREAT night, was there when Emi Fujita performed an exclusive showcase at Hard Rock Cafe, Kuala Lumpur. With a solo discography of four albums – Camomile Extra, Camomile Blend, Lullaby of Camomile-Live in Singapore, and Rembrandt Sky, Fujita is notable name in the J-Pop scene in Japan.
Fujita, who is better known as one half of the husband-wife group, Le Couple, started out playing country bluegrass at the age of 19, performing live at country type gatherings in Japan.
She started writing her own material in her late 20s, her music influenced by the likes of Mary Black, Elton John, James Taylor, Eddie Reeder and Elvis Costello.
She and her husband, Ryuji Fujita, debuted as a married couple in 1994. Their most memorable work is the heart-warming theme song of the popular drama Under The Same Roof, aptly titled Hidamari No Uta (Heartwarming Song in Japan). It sold a whopping 1.8 million copies in Japan in 1997.
In Asia, Fujita better know as part of Le Couple than a solo artiste, but her English solo albums entitled Camomile Extra and Camomile Blend have sold a total of 45,000 copies in Malaysia and Singapore. This is an impressive figure as only mainstream A-listers like Ayumi Hamasaki and BOA have managed to cross the 10,000 mark.
